I visited New London Express Care, thinking it was a typical walk-in urgent care facility, to get an antifungal prescription for a skin rash. The visit took about 15 minutes, with excellent and courteous service. However, I was shocked to see the bill of $706 including a $553 charge for emergency room. After insurance, my portion of the bill was $100 instead of the usual $20 copay. I asked the hospital's patient advocate why they didn't warn me at the desk that I would be charged for an emergency room visit (even though the emergency room is at the opposite end of the hospital). He said that it is against federal law to mention this, that it might discourage patients from using the emergency room. Go figure!! Bottom line: avoid Express Care!

The staff was professional and helpful - no critique there. I have a major problem with the deceptive pricing. I went there for a sore throat to see if I had strep. They decided I needed a swab for COVID/Flu/RSV. I didn't think anything of it and let them do the test. I was there for 15 minutes - this cost me $1,537. I cannot emphasize this enough - this is NOT an urgent care, this is an ER.

This is not an urgent care. Like others in the comments, I was billed over $1,100, with private insurance for something that should have cost $100 or less at a real urgent care. You will be billed as if it was an emergency room visit. Not worth it.

Beware of the deceptive and predatory branding of 'Express Care' and save yourself the financial stress. Despite being functionally an urgent care, and internet search engines directing you here as if it's an urgent care, it is a Type B emergency room and you will be billed accordingly. It's an easy mistake to make: there is another emergency room in New London Hospital. The only place 'Express Care' is touted as a type of emergency room is on the hospital website. The service is no different than what I received at ConvenientMD in Bedford. I saw one RN and one doctor for 5-10 minutes of their time, once for pink eye and then a few days later for bronchitis (before the bills hit). $700 a pop per their invoices.Everyone who attended to my child and I was personable and professional, but the hospital's utter lack of transparency about what Express Care actually is must be remarked upon. Keep your money and drive the extra twenty minutes to a proper urgent care.

I brought my adult son to the Express Care on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 5:45. The website said it was open until 7:00. We drove 45 minutes to get there. He went in, came back out, and said the express care was closed and to go to the emergency room. We did. They turned him away, saying his issue was not an emergency. (1 week of vomiting, diarrhea, fever. Stomach pain was brutal.) By then it was too late to go to Valley Regional. This is the second time NLH has messed up with my son. Last time it was bloodwork screwup. Do better, NLH. Do better.
