Was well taken care of. Your nurse practitioner was thorough and even went as far as to check with a specialist before I left to make sure we were making the correct decisions. Just to be safe. I really appreciated that. She has a wonderful bedside manner making me feel comfortable and confident with her care.nThe rest of the staff was great too!nThank you!

Showed up shortly before closing, and they immediately tried to turn me away because there were still four patients waiting to be seen. The receptionist loudly (and inaccurately u2014 u201cjust a headacheu201d) described my symptoms to a doctor who walked out from the back, and I had to interrupt to explain why I was actually there.nnThe doctor didnu2019t even acknowledge me, just responded to the receptionist and repeated that they were busy and Iu2019d have to wait if I wanted to be seen. Then the receptionist chimed in that they were now officially closed and since I hadnu2019t checked in yet, I could just come back tomorrow.nnI made it very clear: u201cI walked in before closing. Are you refusing care?u201d Thatu2019s when she finally told me to sign in.nnI was called back for triage pretty quickly, but after they took my vitals, I didnu2019t feel confident I was going to get the care I needed or deserved u2014 so I left. On my way out, I overheard the receptionist ask the triage nurse if Iu2019d received any treatment because she wanted it documented. It felt like they were more concerned about covering themselves than helping someone who was genuinely unwell.nnIn the end, I went to the hospital and was admitted which confirmed that leaving was 100% the right call. But the way I was treated at this urgent care was unacceptable. When people go to urgent care, theyu2019re doing so because they need help u2014 being brushed off and dismissed like that is not only unprofessional, itu2019s dangerous.

Wow! Itu2019s not often you leave an urgent care thinking what a great experience! The two women at the front desk were helpful and professional. The MA (I think her name was Shelia) was professional, affable and made me, the patient, feel at ease. My provider Lisse (PA-C) was knowledgeable, professional, and provided exceptional patient centered care. I felt the level of care provided was equivalent to the care I receive from the top doctors in the area. While one doesnu2019t want to go to urgent care, if you have to go I would without hesitation recommend this facility. (As an aside, I work at a very large medical practice in the area and have high standards!)

First and foremost, the professionals that work there are great. Weu2019ve had positive experiences once we actually see the provider. Iu2019ve removed a star for their process/wait time. I made an appointment for 1pm, yet was not seen till 2:30. I was then told after waiting an hour that thereu2019s essentially no value/priority given to those who make an appointments. Going forward if we need urgent care, we wonu2019t bother to make an appointment.

Iu2019ve been an RN x 30+ yrs. I recently traveled overseas and had a bout of food poisoning. AKA an infection of the gastrointestinal tract.nSo on a weekend, when my PCPu2019s office is not open there were 2 alternatives: an ER or, an urgent care facility. I didnu2019t think a full blown ER visit was needed. Some basic blood tests, an assessment for dehydration, and maybe an antibiotic.nMedstaru2019s urgent care website states they do blood tests, and they treat infections ( u201cOur team of providers diagnoses and treats non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries for patients of all ages. We have laboratory testing available on-site for common illnesses (strep, mono, influenza, and urinary infection). If your condition needs further testing such as blood tests or cultures, we will have most results in 48-72 hours. Some advanced testing for serious illnesses may require a referral to annearby hospitalu2019s emergency departmentu201d .)nSo it seemed like the right fit.nWRONG wrong wrong! Did I say Wrong?nThe reception desk staff and med tech were pleasant courteous and helpful. I filled out the usual forms, med history, allergies, and stated my reason for visiting. The PA on duty to assess me? Less than helpful. How so? Ok, here are the highlights. She was quick to tell me they couldnu2019t do blood tests, and report back the same day. I wasnu2019t expecting them to give a turn around that fast. Did she check to see if I was u201c hypovolemicu201d ( a term for low body fluid status aka dehydration) by doing orthostatic vitals signs? Nope. They require a patient to lie flat, have their pulse and BP checked, followed by BP and pulse check sitting, then the same standing. A straightforward and good indicator of someoneu2019s level of dehydration. She became totally focused on my u201clow heart rateu201d. My resting heart rate has been in the 40-50 range x 30 years. Well documented and checked out. Did she listen to my heart for a full minute with her stethoscope? Nope, she had had the med tech recheck my pulse with a pulse ox device which both the tech and I had joked about because my hands were cold and she couldnu2019t get it to read using my index or middle fingersu2026we tried my thumb and got a reading of 40. So yes, at the lower end of my normal level. Final recommendation? Well, either I should go to an ER where they could test me properly, or go home drink fluids, rest and wait the 2 days until my PCPu2019s office opened on Monday. Now mind you, I never mentioned I was a nurse, so if a regular lay person were to have been told thatu2026 Iu2019d hardly consider that a bona fide referral.nnSo sad that an institution holds out an offer for urgent medical care and then doesnu2019t have the clinical staff to treat or make a clearcut referral to see the patient receives the care they need. Makes it look like a sham way of fleecing people or insurance companies of money as opposed to providing appropriate medical services. A sad statement on the caliber of care available, and raises the question of: are the other MedStar urgent care centers are any different?. Maybe good for a bandaid, a strep test, or UTI ( thou2019 if they wonu2019t do a lab test what are they treating???) .nSorry, would not recommend this place to anyone.nnAddendum: To Medstar Health Community Manager. I obtained the care that should have been provided by your facilityu2019s staff on duty.nnPlease note the information I have provided already should be adequate for you to investigate further. I do not work for Medstar you do. Asking the patient to do what is clearly your job, for free is a reflection of a supervision management failure. If I provide further information, it will be in the form of a complaint to the MD State Insurance Commissioneru2019s office. Do your job.
