One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest (the book) could not have been more spot on. This is an unbelievably backwards u2018treatment centeru2019 in the Deep South that compels behavior through implicit threats of diagnostic abuse. At a practical level, itu2019s a jobs program for Southern Miss psychology department, one of the lowest ranked programs in the country from which 100% of this esteemed programu2019s counselors and therapists come. They divvy out unsupported diagnoses despite having no clinical psychologist on board (Dr. Bennet has a PHD in u201cCounseling Psychologyu201d from Southern Miss).Do not go here. Fight to the death with your board to go to another place. It is psychologically destabilizing and can ruin your career and life.u201cOh, youu2019re not paying attention, my friend. She doesnu2019t accuse. She merely needs to insinuate, insinuate anything, donu2019t you see?u201c

PEP or the Professional Enhancement Program at Pine Grove, was one of three options I was given by my state's Physician Health Program. I agree 100% with the other reviews - do not come here if you have a choice. You will begin to question your own sanity. Their techniques are based on humiliation and shame, and peers are encouraged to rat each other out in groups. You will have to take a polygraph examination, which costs $400, and after your initial treatment there's a good chance you will have to return for a weeklong recheck that costs an additional $4000. It appears their underlying philosophy is based on total emotional and psychological deconstruction. It took every ounce of strength not to leave this place a broken human being. Physicians have taken their own lives after completing treatment here. Furthermore, the clinical director is only a licensed clinical social worker. It is not uncommon that urine drug screens are mixed up with someone else's, resulting in a false positive. We all had a saying when we were here, You are damned if you do, and damned if you don't. It is common to receive multiple diagnoses that may not be accurate. Any attempt to discuss their reasoning behind such diagnoses and you are labeled as in denial. I was not depressed before I came to this place, but I'm struggling with depression now. They have been allowed to continue treating healthcare professionals in this abusive and draconian manner because most of us are too terrified to say anything if we make it out and back to our home states. Female participants are constantly told to watch what they wear, or told they are behaving or speaking in a seductive fashion. The program is known for it's sex addiction program, and the men seem to be treated with more dignity and respect than the women, even if they have perpetrated sexual boundary violations against others. I still cannot believe this place is allowed to exist.

I am a physician 3 years sober after an injury and subsequent addiction to opiate pain pills. I needed help when I began my treatment at pine grove next step program and I am truly grateful to them for my recovery. That being said the arrogance and incompetence I experienced during my interactions with the professional enhancement program has nearly destroyed my life and career. After two years sober and practicing without issue I requested the removal of a small restriction on my practice. When I last left pine grove the recommendation was that I return for a u201crechecku201d before this was removed. After my voluntary u201crechecku201d it was recommended that I no longer practice medicine in any manner. When I was finally granted access to my medical records I found they had been altered a month after my visit. The contents of the records were misdated, misleading, and almost intentionally inaccurate. I was out of work for three months (not in any sort of treatment) while I worked with a lawyer, the medical board, and another rehab facility to verify my innocence and prove that I was safe to practice medicine. I am now back at work and my practice restriction has been removed but in the process pine grove cost me my professional reputation in a small town, months of income, legal and evaluation fees, and has been the single biggest threat to my health and recovery. I will now have to rebuild things again. Please do not put yourself in a situation where these people have power over your career. If you are a professional you have worked to hard to support your family for it to be taken away. There are some good programs out there. This particular one does not have enough MD supervision and is in actuality run by a very unprofessional and poorly qualified staff.

This program is like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. They keep people with professional licenses here like hostages and use their power to pull their licenses in order to keep them here for months on end. They use the groups against one another by making them tell on each other during group sessions and then use that against them by claiming it is a part of their personality disorders. Speaking of which, they diagnose people here inappropriately with all sorts of diagnoses. Every person who gets assessed here has to stay here and gets diagnosed with Narcisistic Personality Disorder, and if not with that, with something else. I found this program to be very detrimental to my mental health, and I saw many people fall apart because of it. In my opinion, this program is completely unethical.

Horrible place. I agree with other reviewers. This place all but runied my life. They gave me unsupported diagnosis. Lucky I escaped. It was not easy. But they have all but distroyed my life. My new program (Acumen Institue) all but 100 percent disagrees with them in almost every way.Run away if you can. Run. Run. Run.
