This is a review for the Speech Therapy department. Iu2019ve been very pleased with them so far. They were fast about getting my son in for an evaluation after our referral. And our therapist has been very helpful, kind, and keeps my son engaged during their sessions. They also offer virtual speech therapy which has been awesome. Definitely recommend them!

Waldo County General Hospital (WCGH) in Belfast, Maine, is facing critical systemic challenges that significantly impact patient care and employee morale. The impending discontinuation of labor and delivery services effective April 1, 2025, following a record low of only 109 deliveries in 2023, underscores the hospitalu2019s ongoing struggles with service availability and eroded community trust.Central to these issues is a management structure that fosters a toxic work culture. Reports from current and former employees consistently reveal dissatisfaction with managementu2019s communication practices. The lack of clarity and effectiveness leaves staff feeling confused and frustrated, ultimately undermining collaboration necessary for patient safety. Many employees express that their concerns fall on deaf ears, contributing to a pervasive atmosphere of dissatisfaction.A particularly troubling aspect of the work environment at WCGH is the favoritism that permeates various departments. Employees report that certain individuals, including doctors and nurses, engage in unprofessional behavior without facing repercussions, while others are penalized harshly for minor infractions. This creates a hierarchy that disadvantages many, making them feel like disposable commodities rather than valued members of the team. The culture of being treated as mere numbers fosters fear and resentment, damaging workplace dynamics and morale.Specific incidents within the Environmental Services (EVS) department highlight these systemic problems. Employees have witnessed unprofessional conduct, including neglecting assigned responsibilities in favor of personal preferences. For example, some staff members have been reported to disregard their designated tasks while focusing on areas they prefer, thus undermining the collective efforts of their colleagues. This lack of accountability and dedication raises significant concerns about the hospitalu2019s operational integrity. Moreover, the inconsistency in enforcing hospital protocols is alarming. Employees have faced disciplinary action for minor infractions, such as having food or drinks on their carts, while observing doctors, nurses, and other staff members freely consuming food and drinks throughout the hospital. Reports indicate that nursesu2019 stations and emergency rooms are stocked with drawers full of candy, drinks, and snacks, which blatantly contradicts hospital protocol. This double standard creates a perception of favoritism and breeds resentment among employees, who feel undervalued and unsupported. The overall culture at WCGH has deteriorated markedly since its integration into the MaineHealth system, transitioning to a corporate environment that neglects the community-based care ethos that many employees once valued. Staff frequently express feelings of detachment from the hospitalu2019s mission, with statements like u201cthis place sucksu201d illustrating widespread discontent. Many employees are eager to leave their positions, citing a toxic work environment as a primary factor.Furthermore, reports of excessive breaks, particularly among night shift employees, highlight a complacent culture among certain staff members. While breaks are necessary, the apparent tolerance for unproductive behavior, such as spending hours away from duties, reflects poorly on managementu2019s ability to enforce accountability. The cumulative effect of these systemic problems at Waldo County General Hospital poses a significant threat to both employee satisfaction and patient care. To restore trust and improve the overall work environment, WCGH management must acknowledge these issues, actively engage with staff to address their concerns, and implement meaningful changes that prioritize employee well-being and patient safety. Without decisive action, the hospital risks losing both its staff and the trust of the community it serves.

I can not say enough good things about the ER STAFF. I had gastric bypass 10 days ago down in Massachusetts and was up in Belfast at my summer place. I experienced a rather painful GI problem which is a common side affect. The doctors and nurses were very kind and reassuring, helped treat the problem and let me know that there was nothing to be embarrassed by. Helped make a very overwhelming situation bearable

I have had nothing other than positive experiences with this facility and the staff and employees in the almost 20 years that I have lived in Waldo county.Today was no exception! Thanks to Phil in security and the nice switch board lady for finding my very special necklace that I accidently left behind after my exrays. And thank you to the early for another positive experience a WCGH!

After 6 hours, they discharged my husband, the doctor never came to discuss the concerns. Sending a nurse after spending $1000u2019s on testing, to discharge him without ever having the courtesy to speak with us. Itu2019s okay not to know whatu2019s wrong, itu2019s not okay to ignore the patient and fail to even speak to them regarding a serious complaint! Horrible Physicians that truly donu2019t care about patients!!
