After a total knee replacement on 3/10/2025 (at the age of 71), I've had physical therapy at Emerge Ortho twice a week for the past nine weeks. The two physical therapists I've worked with have both walked a tightrope between being supportive and encouraging, on one hand, and challenging me to challenge myself, on the other. I've got two more visits before I graduate, and I feel confident that I'm equipped to pick up the cudgel and take myself the rest of the way to stairs, hills, square dancing, and freedom. I thank both of them, and EmergeOrtho.

At one point in time it seemed as if I was seeing just about every specialty at EmergeOrtho, and that's including physical therapy. I will start with my the two best experiences I encountered while being a patient at EmergeOrtho. My PT was a young a very personable skilled therapist named Amber. I saw her for my neck and back for several weeks. She was great at her job, she listened to my concerns, and gave me feedback, and had great bedside manner. Typically I don't care for physical therapy but with her I looked forward to it and actually could tell a difference. My second good experience was with Brittany Skillman PA-C. Brittany I saw for knee injections like clockwork every 3months. Very nice, skilled at her job, great bedside manner, her appointments always ran on time, she had a great personality, always answered any questions I had, and was genuinely concerned about my overall well-being and stayed on top of my underlying issues. She will definitely be missed. I came to be her patient because of a mix up of no fault of my own. I'm not sure of EmergeOrtho's system but I had several instances and mixups with appointments that went left during the time that I was in their care. While I was in physical therapy there was such a huge mess with my bill, I knew to stay on top of my business, again something with their system because I had all of my receipts, thankfully it was finally fixed. Brittany Skillman was the last provider I was seeing because the other issues I was having over time got better, except for my cervical issues. The doctor that I was seeing at Emerge for that issue was dismissive and pompous. He was more interested in telling stories about how his two year son likes to eat dog food instead of listening to me explain to him that I believe I was having spinal headaches. He pretty much told me there really wasn't any medical data to back up what I was stating. Nonetheless, 3 months after telling him this, I later saw a neurologist, and had a MRI and I was diagnosed with a rare brain disorder called pachymeningitis so I DIGRESS, maybe he should have listened to me instead of talking to me about something unrelated! The pain I was describing to him was exactly spinal headaches!Today, was my last day as a patient of Emerge unfortunately. After my last knee injection with Brittany she mentioned to me trying a viscoating gel injections for my knees. It took three weeks for someone from the office to call me, and when they did unfortunately I missed the call, because I was on the other line with my elderly mom who lives out of town. I proceeded to call the scheduler back for over a week and a half leaving multiple messages sometimes more than once a day. She called me one other time, but I missed her again. Apparently, Catherine is the only person that schedules these appointments and she schedules for multiple locations. I didn't find this out until I had called about 15 times, not exaggerating. I just could not understand why I couldn't get a return call. I finally asked to speak to her manager. Then I was told they are the only two that make these appointments, I've yet to be called back by the manager. Finally, the front end manager (Teresa) swoops in and saves the day....or at least I thought. Finally after two weeks of trying to get this appointment I have one. She has me on the books. Apologizes for all I been through, no problem. Never once does she mention anything about an extra cost other than my regular co pay. Remember, I never had this procedure done. I come to my appointment this morning and I'm told my out of pocket is about $213.00....excuse me? Not today Satan! And of course Teresa is in a meeting conveniently and will be in one for the next hour....however the front desk person helping me is going back and forth to her office sending messages between she and I. Unbelievable! I will not be returning. I will however miss Brittany Skillman!

Suffered from a knee injury and walked in for urgent care. Had a really pleasant experience. Friendly staff, timely examinations. I was able to get my MRI done on the same day and a follow up appointment for two days later. Very impressed!

I had my follow up with my orthopedic doctor at Emerge Orthopedics in Durham today. They had me in and out within an hour. They made the other three appointments I need for me as well. I have been a patient for many years and the practice has steadily improved over time. I highly recommend them for any of your orthopedic care.
