I visited SouthStar Urgent Care in New Iberia, LA on April 3rd with concerning symptoms, including shortness of breath, wheezing, chest pain when coughing, and other signs that I felt could have indicated COVID, flu, or possibly strep. Unfortunately, I left feeling unheard, misdiagnosed, and disappointed in the level of care I received.nnThe physician associate who saw me, Jaquinta u201cJaqu201d Graves, did not ask for a full history of my symptoms or allow me the opportunity to explain how they had developed over the past few days. Instead, she appeared to rely solely on the limited notes taken by the medical assistant and quickly attributed my condition to allergies.nnWhat concerned me most is that she did not perform any auscultation during the examu2014no assessment of lung or breath sounds via stethoscope. Despite me reporting symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain while coughing, and audible wheezing, no attempt was made to listen to my lungs, back, or chest. I was also masked during the entire visit, which would have further warranted a proper physical assessment. Omitting auscultation in the presence of respiratory symptoms is not only alarming, but a basic step in any thorough examination.nnFollowing the visit, I replied directly to the automated follow-up text message I received, which encouraged patients to share any additional comments or concerns. I voiced mine respectfully and clearly, hoping for a response, an apology, or at the very least a chance to be re-evaluated. I received no acknowledgment, no follow-up, and no response at all.nnI had hoped to keep my concerns private, but since they were ignored, I feel compelled to share my experience publicly. I hope this review encourages SouthStar to take patient concerns seriously and ensure that thorough, compassionate, and appropriate care is provided moving forward.
