Complete Fraud!!! I was also charged twice for the same visit with both bills over $800. They do not explain this to you at the time of your visit. I did not even know that I had a bill from EMS until bill collectors had contacted me. They where sending the bill to the wrong address for month's that I had found out. Not once did they try to call me or email me about my bill. Talking to customer service is completely horrible. I will have my attorney handle this situation for me!

On 12/29/2024 I went to Ascension SE Wisconsin Urgent care to be treated for a sore throat. I was given a strep test and sent on my way. Several weeks later I received a $597 bill from EMS. I attempted to negotiate with both EMS and Ascension to lower the bill and was told that was not possible. On the phone, I was told that the $565 cost was because I was a 'new patient' at a 'level 4 hospital,' when I pointed out that I was in the Ascension system they told me I misunderstood what 'new patient' meant and said that costs 'depended on the day of service,' which makes no sense, are some days more expensive than others? I was directed to connect with Ascension billing to discuss the codes assigned to my care. I subsequently was informed I had a separate $297 bill on top of the bill from EMS from Ascension - all for a strep test. This company participates in unfair and predatory billing practices stay FAR AWAY.nnEdited to add: I did not receive a shot. Regardless of u2018signs postedu2019 charging $900 for a walk-in throat exam is INSANE. This is not in line with the practices of other urgent cares. It is price gouging and predatory.

EDIT: I am talking about you and ascension. I hope that helps. Your tiny sign is NOT informed consent 1 I am visually impaired and legally blind without visual aids. I cannot see your sign. It needs to be VERBALLY explained to patients. 2 what if someone cannot speak English? For a healthcare provider I think you would know that is a poor excuse and you should be expecting to see a variety of patients. I wish I could give negative stars.nnBELOWnWARNING to consumers here. If you go to the ascension urgent on Mayfair road they will charge you a HORRENDOUS rate. These guys are bizarre with billing. I also requested an itemized bill and never received one. My provider was kind in person (winter 2024), but this is still really dishonest and borderline cruel.nnTo the LEADERSHIP:nNEED to give patients INFORMED consent. INFORM us on your rates. INFORM us at the clinic from the provider and check in staff that you are separate from them. Quite honestly itu2019s a really unethical business practice. Iu2019ll be reaching out to ascension and suggesting to not contract with you anymore. Iu2019m not including my name because I am concerned about being harassed.nnBusinesses original response:nnThank you for writing your comments. I apologize that you are frustrated.nnItu2019s a little unclear as to whether you are speaking about the billing for the Ascension facility charges or the provider charges. These are two separate charges. In each of the facilities, there is a sign indicating that you will be receiving two bills, one from Ascension and one from Emergency Medicine Specialists (EMS), your provider. The informed consent is given at the time of registration.nnNone of the providers have any control over the billing, as the rates are set by federal guidelines. If you are looking for billing details, EMSu2019 billing company can provide them for you. You can make an inquiry for the information through the website at ems-wi.com and weu2019ll put you in touch with the right representative.nnAgain, I apologize for the frustration that you experienced with your encounter.

I don't understand the policy of only texting people with their bills. Does it not occur to you how sketchy it is when a service, which is not clearly tied to any medical facility, texts you with a link and asks for money. No email, no physical bill in the mail. What a joke. I didn't need another reason to avoid Ascension but when it rains, it pours.
