I went to Porter for the first time yesterday, I was in ridiculous pain from a kidney stone. The intake staff there was absolutely fantastic, very professional without being robots, the Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, even the support staff, all of them, very attentive without hovering. Everything happened just as quickly as it could and I was out of there more quickly than I have ever experienced in an ER, with a diagnosis, med orders and follow up set up. This wasn't a slow day for them (I overheard them talking) so I didn't just get lucky, I don't think. Just a really excellent experience.

Went to the E.R.. Knew what was wrong,having been an Emt for years. was told i had a uterious discharge. I knew that wasn't right,as I had Fecal matter,not regular discharge. The DR. on duty didn't pay any attenion to what I said. two days latter,I went to UVM,& was told after tests,I hadColovaginal Fistula.Waste of money & Time.Now waiting to have Surgery.

Incompetent billing department. Porter MC refuses to correct their billing codes and my insurance is refusing to pay. Rude billing department. Multiple calls and multiple appeals with Porter and my insurance and they could care less. BE CAREFUL if you visit their so called 'Urgent Care' because Porter will bill it as an ER visit which conveniently includes ER billing and codes!!! All for a simple ear infection. Charged $600.00 + for an ER visit and a script for antibiotics. They advertise 'Urgent Care Medical CLINIC' but bill otherwise. Shame on You.

I'm rather surprised to see such negative reviews. People complaining about long waits, or the staff not friendly... For a small town hospital that probably has a LOT of alcohol/drug/mental health crisis/car crash-related incidences any time I've had to go there I've found the wait acceptable & the staff friendly, caring, & very professional. I've been there for lab work/radiology & I've been there for emergencies (even once brought by ambulance unconscious from a concussion, recently went in with a broken wrist). The staff have been top-notch every time for every circumstance. They are patient- it can't be easy dealing with sick/injured/crying/screaming/uncooperative people all day & night, but they do, & with kindness. If one goes in with the expectation that they are the ONLY patient there & everyone must stop what they are doing to help them then of course any wait longer than a minute seems unreasonable. But if you stop & remember that no matter how bad off you are you don't know that there may be someone way worse off than you! So you may have to wait a while. Maybe in a hallway on a gurney! There are only so many doctors, nurses, other staff, radiology machines, lab techs, rooms, beds.... to go around. They have to triage- is your stomach ache more urgent than the person whose hand just got cut off in a car crash? You don't feel good, but someone else feels like they are going to kill themselves. You hurt your foot, but there's a child with a 104u00b0 temperature & convulsing. The staff have to assess & place people in line according to the severity of their complaint. They KNOW you are waiting to be treated. When people said they saw staff sitting around you don't know what's going on behind the scenes. And I know that I sure don't want the person sitting around behind the desk typing in reports to be the one to determine my health care! I feel miserable when I have to go to an ER. But no matter how miserable I feel I KNOW with complete certainty that there is someone worse off than I am. Display the compassion you wish to see from others. I have found that the calmer, kinder, & more understanding I am the faster & better I am treated. I think Porter is doing a great job, one of the best facilities I've been to in a long time.

My wife and I welcomed our beautiful baby girl this week there the birth center is the best place around! The staff was amazing and super helpful teaching ways and techniques my wife and I were beyond amaze with the care that was given. Thank you to the amazing crew at the birth center we appreciate all you guys!!
