Usually I avoid UofM Sparrow Charlotte because of the lack of care and empathy Iu2019ve received in the past (specifically June of 2022). However, April 26th 2025 I ended up in the ER there. From the moment I was taken back to a room, to the moment I was discharged I received amazing care. Nurse Kayla has to be the best nurse employed there, please donu2019t lose her. She is 100% dedicated to her job and a major asset. Patient Care Tech Liz, is amazing at her job and very empathetic, sheu2019s definitely found her calling for a career in the medical field. Between Kayla and Liz I felt so comfortable and respected. Not to mention, they both calmed me down. Dr. Shaver is seriously top notch, the healthcare system definitely needs more doctors like him.

If youu2019re neurodivergent consider taking an advocate or going somewhere else if you can. I came in with symptoms of a spinal cord injury and was treated with extreme suspicion. I didnu2019t even make it to an exam room. The doctor, who never so much as touched me, told me to simply wait for my primary care appointment which (due to the cyberattack) wasnu2019t for almost 2 more months. I ended up having to go on disability because my symptoms made it too difficult for me to do my job, and now almost 5 months later Iu2019m still slowly making my way through the system with a diagnosis that could have been made that night with a CT scan.

Excellent and fast care! Definitely better than Sparrow Hospital in downtown Lansing, I got checked in and back to a room in less than 20 minute of arriving. I Had to stay longer to have lab done but it was a great overall experience. I hate hospitals and sitting and waiting, but the staff made sure I was comfortable and kept me updated as much as possible with my situation.

Natosha and Jenn from respiratory and RN Joni, treated me so amazing! The care they gave me was exceptional. However, I had Nurse Robert C tonight - I had noticed that they had completely taken me off all monitoring and Iu2019m still septic and had just got off oxygen, they unplugged my monitor and pulse ox and were gonna leave me in my room for hours unmonitored. I was hooked up to absolutely nothing. I became very scared about what would happen if my oxygen began to dip and no one would be checking on me for over an hour and they had no way of knowing how my oxygen was doing because I wasnu2019t hooked up to anything monitoring me. I began crying and I asked about what was going and about being discharged - they came with an ama paper, a woman immediately took out my IV out before even talking to me about anything or before I could even read what the ama said or begin to ask questions. i kept asking questions about it and asked why Im still here if no one is monitoring me and am still septic and I just got off oxygen today, how come nobodyu2019s monitoring me for over an hour or moreu2026 I was just genuinely concerned that if my oxygen began to dip, that no one would be aware of what was going on inside my room. I kept asking these questions to Robert C the RN, As he proceeded to not tell me anything and shake his head and he started to smirk and laugh while I was crying, and I was just really really terrified and wanting to understand what was going on. I have been here for a while and I never been sick before in my life.. I have 3 Little boys that are begging for me to come home and I just wanted some compassion and some answers. Robert was very cold and very rude and just wanted to keep smirking at me. I didnu2019t feel safe because his manner made me feel like he wasnu2019t taking my health concerns seriously. And that left me genuinely terrified. He refused to leave, which scared me even more - I kept asking to the point where I actually had to raise my voice, and then he followed that up by writing in my chart, a false statement of what happened, and he wrote a bunch of profanities in my chart and tried to call security on me instead of being understanding to a patient that was terrified, he just made the situation worse. I have proof his story is fabricated because I was also on video call with my mother during this incident, she saw and heard all of it. He ended up being my nurse for the night, I asked to speak to someone else like a supervisor and they didnu2019t allow me to and said he was the supervisor. He then came in my room, said he would be back in five minutes to bring me my medicationsu2026He did not come back. after about 45 minutes called the nurses station where my page was ignored for quite a while, until it was finally answered by the woman who had had taken out my IV, who is very rude, and said that Robert was the supervisor, and if I had a problem that I could talk to him. And I told her I didnu2019t feel safe having him as my nurse cause I didnu2019t think he was going to take good care of me and I became genuinely terrified of my wellbeing, the woman at the station did not care and hung up and no one came in to give me my steroids or my medication. Thankfully, an hour later, I got a wonderfully sweet nurse named Ashleigh, who calmly explained everything to me and put me at ease and made me feel safe again for the remainder of my night . I have to say that Robert, the RN is very terrifying and I would not recommend him caring for anyone because I feel like he would put someoneu2019s life in danger over his own personal feelings towards the patient.

The women at the front desk are extremely rude. Refused to give me a wait time or even the amount of people in front of me. Then refused to let me have a box of tissue. I'm here because I'm sick, yet I'm not allowed to have a box of tissue. This place has changed, and not for the better!
