I WISH I COULD GIVE YOU PEOPLE A 0-INFINITY.I took my son in for a mental hold due to an impulse control disorder. Let me preface this by saying, other than not sleeping well and having an impulse to steal electronics he is a typical 10 year old kid. After weeks of not being able to sleep because my son kept sneaking through windows, and several calls to all different places it was finally recommended by our case managers to take him to the hospital, even if its only a night to get some immediate help, since appointments are weeks to months out. So i took him to our nearest ER as they suggested, and i would much rather have a sleepless night than deal with these people for anything ever again. They called me the day after to discharge him, which I kind of expected since it often takes weeks for inpatient helpfor such a young child. When I showed up for discharge my son was complaining of a sore neck, had a weird bruise on his leg, and was having some sort of weird involuntary muscle spasms where he would start crying in pain because his muscles were so tense, his jaw would lock open or closed, his eyes and neck would twist and contort, and he would drool and be unresponsive. The first spasm shocked me so bad I immediately called for the doctor. Several doctors, including the lead in charge that day tried to tell me it was voluntary and he was doing it for attention. That he was faking it all. I kept telling them I know my son, he doesn't do anything even remotely close to this for attention. He would be much more likely to use spoons as drumsticks or something annoying. I demanded they do some sort of blood work or mental evaluation for him or something because something was severely wrong. I even asked for several different doctors, who literally just backed up the first doctor by saying he was doing this all ON PURPOSE! He couldn't swallow properly, he would barely walk. The doctor FORCED him to his feet and FORCED him to walk around the hospital while he was crying in pain from being stuck sideways while they were dragging him around the hall. For hours he went through these episodes of torture. Barely even conscious that I was there. I BEGGED AND CRIED AND PLEADED FOR THEM TO HELP MY SON AND ALL THEY DID WAS SHOVE DISCHARGE PAPERS AT US. They FORCED us to leave in a taxi, refusing all help, while the Taxi driver and I both cried as my son stopped breathing several times in the 10 minute car ride home from the severe muscle spasms. NOT EVEN RUBBING KNUCKLES AS HARD AS I COULD ON HIS CHEST HELPED. As soon as I got home I called 911, the EMTs took one look at him and knew immediately what was wrong. They said it was a severe reaction bordering on allergic/overdose to the medications given to him by the Hillsboro hospital, the fix was simply extremely high dose of benadryl to stop the spasms and reaction. Hillsboro hospital could have given him that, or even told me I could give him benadryl at home to fix it and instead they forced my son to go through hours of emotional and physical torture while essentially gaslighting me into believing my son was being difficult. From the time I saw my son that morning, until 2:30AM the next day my son was going through these spasms, unable to eator drink properly. He downed so much food as soon as we got home because he had basically been starved due to the medication essentially taking him hostage. The extreme malpractice and negligence by these doctors is appaling and disgusting. HOW DARE YOU MAKE A VOW TO HEAL AND NOT HARM THEN CAUSE SO MUCH SUFFERING. SHAME ON YOU PEOPLE. St. Vincent's was VERY clear that he WAS NOT faking, being difficult, or seeking attention. They assured me it was a severe reaction that caused a catatonic state. They were APPALED that several doctors and even the social worker tried to say he was doing it by choice for attention and RELEASED him that was. AVOID THIS HOSPITAL LIKE THE PLAGUE, BECAUSE YOULL DIE HERE LIKE IT.

Intake staff were very caring and gentle. Dr. Vanegas was the only medical staff who attemded to me and addressed me needs. He saw how broken I was. He spoke to me with gentleness, compassion and provided me with the care I desperately needed. We need more people like him. I'll forever be grateful to you, Dr. Vanegas. Thank you!!!!

A total lack of concern for their patients. Had major neck surgery. Was a fight to get jello, ice packs, water anything had to ask multiple times to get anything. 5am my cheap ice packs bag exploded all the bed from being overfilled. Bedding had to be stripped and changed and they had no pillow cases since before 3 pm the day prior. From 5am-8am i had bo pillow cases on my pillows couldnt use them because they felt gross. A neck surgery patient with bo pillows to use for hours. one nurse went to get me a complaint card never got it. Took 4 hours for them to do my discharge paperwork and round up a neck brace the doctor ordered. My breakfast tray sat in the room for the same four hours. Half my dinner was forgotten and I couldn't get it because food service is cut off at 7pm. Couldn't get anyone to get me jello or pudding. They would leave to get it and never return. Absolutely neglectful when it comes to patients care. OHSU you need to do better. how about start by teaching your staff how to actually do their jobs. Because clearly housekeeping doesn't. About the only thing you were on top of was trying to constantly overdose me on Tylenol. 3 times in 24 hours the computer had to tell them I couldnt have it yet . Occupational therapy didn't even come up until the morning after surgery. You would think they would have had them in their showing me how to move post surgery the same day not the next day after you already having me up and moving and toileting on my own. Staff constantly walked by garbage on the floor and all over the room and no one could be bothered to pick anything up. Even the nurse who kept missing the garbage can was to lazy to pick his trash up off the floor. OHSU you should be embarrassed how your staff work and treat patients. Bring back work ethics.

Worst ER experience ever. Staff was not concerned after we got to the room. Gave my wife an anti nausea pill and when she needed water because her throat was dry, the staff said she needed to wait for the doctor. For a cup of water?! Ridiculous! Not to mention it took forever for the doctor and she said on the pain scale she was at a 9. If this wasn't the only place open at 1:30am, we would have went somewhere else. Unacceptable.
