My brother was moved to the VA in Spokane at the end of his battle with pancreatic cancer- he passed away on April 22nd, 2025.nnThe care and compassion he received there was amazing for all of his family - he was treated with dignity and respect over his final two weeks-nnThe nursing/support staff, management, Chaplin were in lockstep mode in supporting my brother and his family - I can think of nothing to suggest they change or modify in their care -nnDuring this tough time for our family. We were able to be family for my brother as his care was amazingly orchestrated around him -nnThe final salute service organized by the Chaplin and nursing supervisor was a wonderful send off for my brother- An announcement was made over the hospital and staff lined the halls to salute or hold their hand over their heart's to show respect , then the VAPD - honorably took the draped flag over my brother, folded it and presented it to my sister in law- what an amazing tribute to my brother and his family .nnThank you Spokane VA - we were blessed to have your services for my brother u2014nnHere is a Facebook tribute I left for my brother:nnIt is with profound gratitude and love that I acknowledge the passing of my beloved brother Gary Hall, who bravely fought pancreatic cancer and peacefully ascended today (4/22/2025 at 2am).nnFor 63 years, he stood as my steadfast protector and rock, guiding me through life's journey from England to Little Rock Arkansas, San Antonio Texas, Istanbul Turkey, Madrid Spain, Alexandria, Louisiana, Spokane Washington, and Natchitoches, Louisiana, and back to Spokane, Washington.nnGary's extraordinary life was a testament to his remarkable character, and he will be deeply missed by his loving family, including his wife, his parents, his sister in law, his brother , his children, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.nnHis unwavering dedication to his country earned him an honorable retirement from the National Guard, and we are eternally grateful for the love and support of his military family.nnIn his final days, Gary was blessed with the compassionate care of the Spokane VA, who treated him with dignity and respect, embodying the true spirit of honor and gratitude. As we bid farewell to this incredible soul, we take comfort in the knowledge that his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched.nnGary, your love, wisdom, and generosity will forever be etched in our hearts, and we look forward to the day when we will reunite. Until then, may your journey be peaceful, and may your spirit continue to inspire us to live with purpose, love, and kindness.nnA special thanks to a wonderful group of his high school friends who wrapped their arms around him over this past year. Since getting out of the military in 2014, I have been a patient of Phoenix, Boise and now Spokane VHA. Spokane has been by far the least helpful. It has been nearly four months since I first called to get transferred to this location and I am still not even in their system. I've had to call Boise VA twice now to get my medications sent to me. I've spoken to at least 20 different people in multiple departments, from Patient Advocacy, Pharmacy, Administration and Community Care. Each team says they will either a) get on it or b) transfer me to the right person where I just get sent to voicemail. This endless loop of nothing being accomplished is getting old.nnI would have given this review 1 star if it weren't for the people on the other side of the phone being pleasant to talk to. It's not their fault anyway. It starts with the leadership team there. They are obviously fine with providing subpar service to veterans, if they weren't, things would be different. Those people in leadership roles should either step aside or figure out a different way to do things. Veterans deserve better.

Negative Review of Spokane VA Medical CenternnAs a 100% permanent and total veteran, I expect my healthcare to reflect the respect, efficiency, and care that I and my fellow veterans deserve. Unfortunately, my experiences with the Spokane VA have consistently fallen short of these expectations, leaving me frustrated, disappointed, and feeling marginalized.nnThe primary care team assigned to me has failed to provide adequate support, and communication is nearly nonexistent. Getting someone on the phone is almost impossible, as the facility does not offer a way to contact front desks directly to inform them of running late for an appointment, ask simple questions, or confirm details. The only option is to leave a message, with no guarantee of a callback. In my experience, only about 20% of messages are returned, forcing me to rely on the VAu2019s cumbersome online messaging platform. Even then, I can only send messages if I know the specific person or department to contact, which is often not the case. This leaves me no choice but to physically visit the campus to find the right office, a process that is neither efficient nor convenient.nnThe lack of accountability extends to basic scheduling. On one occasion, I scheduled an appointment in person, only to receive calls from the same staff member on four separate occasionsu2014the day of scheduling, the next day, a week later, and a month lateru2014each time claiming the appointment was submitted. Despite their assurances, it never was. Ultimately, I had to find the same doctor at their private community office and pay out of pocket to avoid the VAu2019s bureaucratic inefficiency.nnThe disparity in care is also glaring. While Iu2019ve seen my spouse receive excellent care, including follow-up calls and detailed breakdowns of results and recommendations, Iu2019ve never experienced such attention or service. The contrast is both disheartening and unacceptable.nnIu2019ve reached out to the Patient Advocate multiple times, both in person and through the VAu2019s messaging system, to address these ongoing issues. While I appreciate their efforts, the time Iu2019ve invested has yielded no tangible improvements. The system seems broken, with little urgency or accountability to address veteransu2019 needs.nnAs a well-educated veteran with extensive business experience, I understand the challenges of managing operations and processes. However, the inefficiency, lack of communication, and disregard Iu2019ve encountered at the Spokane VA are inexcusable. This facility and its staff require a complete overhaul to address systemic issues and provide the level of care veterans deserve. While I would willingly contribute to such changes, the current state of the VA healthcare system makes such efforts untenable.nnMy experience with the Spokane VA has been a disheartening reminder of the work that needs to be done to ensure veterans receive timely, effective, and compassionate care. I hope this review serves as a wake-up call for the leadership of this facility to prioritize the needs of the veterans it is meant to serve.

My grandfather spent his last few months in the CLC and VA hospice. They not only took care of my grandfather, but us, too. The care of every staff member made our last few months together the best it could be. We were able to spend time with him as family and not as caregivers.
